Oceanus was also the father of six thousand children - three thousand sons, and three thousand daughters, the nymphs known as the Oceanids. One of the Oceanids was Tyche, the goddess of fortune and good luck. Several other Oceanids appear in other myths such as Achelous. The eldest son of Oceanus, he was the god of the river of that name and of a place or region, and the divinity personifying it. He possessed the godly power of appearing in various forms, sometimes as a bull or a snake, or as a man, with the face of a bull. He is important in one of the legends of Heracles.
