aea was both mother to, and wife of, Uranus. She was also the mother of The Titans. She was instrumental in the rebellion against her husband for banishing her Cyclops andHecatoncheires children to Tartarus. She caused her titan sons to rise up against their father and to replace him with Cronus, the youngest of the Titans, all of them, except Oceanus, joining the conspiracy. Gaea was honoured and worshipped as the universal mother, nurse and nourisher of children. She was also the goddess of death, who calls all of her children back to her and takes them to her bosom; logical really since being the nourisher and nurse of children, she should have the rites over death too.
