t is generally believed that Time existed before anything else in the universe, existing from the very beginning but without a beginning. From Time came Chaos, a vast, vacant, undefined, infinite, empty, immeasurable space, a yawning gap a primal void antedating men and gods and things.

From Chaos came Erebus, or darkness, and his sisters Nyx or Night, and Gaea, the earth. Erebus and Nyx became the parents of a daughter, Hemera, or day and a son Aether, or air. Gaea, the goddess of the earth, gave birth to son, Uranus, the heavens.
